A couple of years ago, four key players of the Helsinki life science and health tech network – HUS, the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, and the City of Helsinki – set a common goal: developing the Helsinki region into the best Northern European hub for life science and health-related innovations and business development.
At the beginning of 2016, this goal led to the establishment of the Health Capital Helsinki (HCH) alliance that quickly became an active player in the Finnish health tech and life science field. Since 2017, HCH has been the main organizing partner of Upgraded Life Festival, and on May 31st, the first day of this year’s ULF, HCH proudly presents how the unique Health Capital Helsinki network has developed during the two-year history of the alliance.
At the “Upgrading Life Science and Healthtech in Helsinki – Stories from Health Capital Helsinki” session on the Blue Stage, you will first hear what the HCH alliance has to offer for researchers, startups, and growth companies – from the early identification of innovations to supporting entry into international markets. We will present the SPARK Finland and Biodesign programs initiated by HCH, as well as a newly-piloted model for an accelerator and business trainings for health and life science startups. Further, Hadean Ventures is bringing in an investor’s point of view by presenting their recently founded fund that invests in European life science companies.
One major goal of the HCH alliance has always been to help collaborators and investors to enter the field of life sciences and health tech in the Helsinki region. At ULF, you will hear about initiatives that aim to help such public-public and public-private collaboration in the capital region – including CleverHealth Network, FinnGen, and EATRIS.
Health Capital Helsinki also organizes two panel discussions on June 1st: these focus on the two burning topics in the medical field: the global antimicrobial resistance crisis and cybersecurity of medical devices. We are also hosting a Health Capital Helsinki stand in the exhibition area on both festival days – feel free to drop by anytime to have a chat with the alliance members!
