Helsinki Biobank is a hospital-based biobank founded by the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), the University of Helsinki, Kymenlaakso Social and Health Services (Carea) and the South Karelia Social and Health Care District (Eksote).
We process and store samples and related data for future medical research needs. Biobank research investigates how genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors impact the etiology of diseases. Studies also include disease prevention and the development of safe, more effective and personalised therapies and diagnostics.

HUS Virtual Reality Laboratory is a showroom for presenting virtual and augmented reality solutions for healthcare. The idea is to increase cooperation between healthcare professionals and health technology companies and share information among the different actors. The aim is to acquire new products, technologies and practices for the use of healthcare and through them to improve quality and patient safety. Currently in the showroom is displayed Visumo (virtual learning environment), Disior (software for diagnostics and treatment optimization) and PeiliVision (VR solution for neurological rehabilitation).

The UK has one of the most vibrant and productive life science sectors in the world generating £64 billion annual turnover. UK’s NHS (National Health Service) is the world’s largest public healthcare system covering more than 60 million patients, with a firm commitment to research and partnering with industry.
The session is moderated by DIT’s Life Science Specialist Chris Howie who will lead the discussion and provide a comprehensive overview of UK life science business opportunities.

Stuart Deed, Digital Health & Care Institute (DHI) Scotland’s Strategic Partnering Director, will explain the different types of collaboration they have with companies and the opportunities within Scottish healthcare supply chain especially for digital health tech companies
